πŸ“£ Beta feedback β€” v1.0.0-beta.1Β #5

Description

@devhardiyanto

Welcome to the Servel v1.0.0-beta.1 beta period. This issue is the entry point for beta feedback β€” please read before reporting.

What is being tested

Servel v1.0 MVP shipping these 6 core features:

  • PHP version switching via phpvm
  • Node version switching via fnm
  • Docker services orchestration (9 services: MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redis, RabbitMQ, MongoDB, MinIO, Mailpit, Gotenberg, SQL Server)
  • Auto-detect .phpvmrc / .nvmrc
  • Persist state + system tray
  • Dynamic compose generator

How to participate

  1. Download the installer for your OS from Releases.
  2. Install β€” read the SmartScreen / Gatekeeper workaround in the README.
  3. Use Servel for your daily workflow for a few days.
  4. Report what you find:
    • Functional bugs β†’ open a new Bug report issue.
    • Ideas / questions / showcases β†’ use Discussions.
    • General feedback β†’ comment on this issue.

What is NOT in scope for beta feedback

These are intentionally deferred to v1.0.1 / v1.1 β€” please do not file issues for them:

  • Code signing (Windows SmartScreen + macOS notarization) β€” locked decision, workaround documented.
  • Loading skeletons across async views β€” planned for v1.0.1.
  • Tray icon 16x16 mono optimization β€” planned for v1.1.
  • Light theme, port conflict detection, multiple profiles, sites manager β€” out of scope for v1.x MVP.

Known limitations

  • Windows: WSL2 + Docker Desktop required. Installer offers to inject .wslconfig.
  • macOS: unsigned, requires xattr -d com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Servel.app on first launch.
  • Linux AppImage is ~80 MB because WebKitGTK is bundled (system runtime not guaranteed across distros).

What I am watching for

  • Install flow smooth on a fresh machine?
  • All 9 services start without manual intervention?
  • Tray transitional UI (starting / stopping badges) accurate?
  • .phpvmrc / .nvmrc auto-detect reliable in real projects?
  • Any crash, freeze, or data corruption?

Beta window

~1–2 weeks. After that, critical fixes ship as v1.0.0-beta.2 (if needed), then v1.0.0 stable.

Thank you for trying Servel.
