FYI: swarmfs — a Python/fsspec client for Swarm — already points users to swarm-cli #776

Description

@petfold

Hi — maintainer of swarmfs here, an fsspec backend for Swarm that makes bzz:///bzzf:// URLs work directly with pandas, Dask, Zarr, xarray, PyArrow, and DuckDB. It's Python-only and deliberately has no CLI of its own — swarm-cli already owns that job, and swarmfs's own error messages point users at it (e.g. a missing postage stamp says "buy a batch first, e.g. swarm-cli stamp buy --depth 20 --amount 100000000").

Not asking for anything from the codebase — just flagging it in case it's useful:

  • For visibility: if a Python/data-tooling user ever asks in your issues/Discord "is there a way to do this without leaving Python," swarmfs is a fair answer.
  • A reciprocal mention: I didn't see a "related projects" or ecosystem section in the swarm-cli README — if one exists elsewhere, feel free to point me at it. If you'd ever want a one-line pointer to swarmfs for Python users (the way swarmfs already points to swarm-cli for stamp/CLI operations), happy to send a PR for that line, or you're welcome to add it yourselves.

No urgency either way — just closing the loop since the pointer currently only goes one direction. Thanks for swarm-cli, it's been useful as the reference for what swarmfs's own docs tell users to reach for.
