Bug description
This is an issue with using "Only use workspaces on primary monitor".
When switching workspace, the focus is given to the window which had focus the last time this workspace was used (with the windows behaviour "Window focus mode = Click") .
This seems consistent with the expected behaviour of Cinnamon when not using the "Only use workspaces on primary monitor", however, it creates inconsistency when using it.
You can select the window in the extra monitor, giving it focus, then switch to another workspace and you'll lose focus from it, while it is still visible and displayed. This also create the issue of switching workspace with your focus on the primary screen, and having the focus jumps on the secondary screen window.
When selecting the windows behaviour "Window focus mode = Sloppy", and using a window taking only half the screen, if you move the mouse at out of the windows, pointing at the desktop, the window keep the focus, however, if you switch workspace and come back, the focus is now on the window in the secondary monitor.
Steps to reproduce
- Use a two monitor setup
- Select "Only use workspaces on primary monitor" in the workspace options (need Cinnamon restart)
- Select Window focus mode = Click" in the windows options
- Give focus to a window in the primary monitor in Workspace 1
- Give focus to a window in the secondary monitor in Workspace 2
- Switch between these two Workspace
With Sloppy mouse focus
- Select Window focus mode = Click" in the windows options
- On the primary monitor: Use a window on half the screen in Workspace 1, put your mouse on it then move the mouse to the empty space
- Switch to workspace 2, back to workspace 1, the focus is now to a window in the secondary monitor
Expected behavior
That the focus do not jump between monitor when using multiple monitor but workspaces only in the primary monitor. If necessary, give focus to no window at all, if there is no agreed standard. But currently the jumps between monitor creates problematic solution (for example switching to the workspace containing the password manager, trying to unlock it, only for the password to be typed in the secondary monitor).
