Brief summary of issue

You can see through the pixelized overlay for small areas.

One may not notice that the pixelized text or some part of it (depending on how the pixelization area has been drawn) is still readable (or almost readable) and send the image away without fixing it.

Steps to reproduce the issue

1. Open/capture an image in the Shutter editor.
2. Pixelize just around a rather small (not big) text.
3. Save the image (as PNG).
4. Open the image (in any way) and zoom in.
5. You can still read the pixelized text under the pixel overlay.

Extra information, such as Shutter version, display server in use (Xorg or Wayland), operating system and ideas for how to solve:

I'm using Shutter v 0.99.2 Rev. 1593

It seems like the pixelized area has a semi-transparent border (for aesthetic reason?). It probably should be solid (or no border at all).

Hi, thanks for your report, but this is a duplicate of an already fixed issue: #218 If possible, switch to a more recent Shutter version (0.97 is the currently latest version).

Thanks for the info! You probably meant 0.99.7.

I'm using the latest Linux Mint (22.3), unfortunately, the latest Shutter there is more than 3 years old 0.99.2...

I don't really know how the software gets to me. :) Should I maybe write about this somewhere where the packaging is done (for Linux Mint)?

Actually, Shutter is quite easy to install without using package management, not even compiling is required. Here are directions: https://shutter-project.org/downloads/source-code/ If you choose a non-standard prefix like /usr/local instead of /usr, it can even coexist with the deb version. You will probably have to install libmoo-perl:

sudo apt install libmoo-perl
