# Goal Prompt: Depth 1 Patent Citation Mermaid

Create a Mermaid diagram for a depth-1 patent citation lookup.

Use the current PatentMine data model as the source of truth:
- The searched patent is the root node.
- Backward citations are edges where the root patent cites another patent.
- Forward citations are edges where another patent cites the root patent.
- Use review state when available: stored, under_review, ignored, cached.
- Include freshness/provenance notes if cache metadata is available.

Requirements:
1. Produce a Mermaid `flowchart LR`.
2. Put the root patent in the center conceptually as `depth 0`.
3. Put patents cited by the root in a `Depth 1 backward` subgraph.
4. Put patents citing the root in a `Depth 1 forward` subgraph.
5. Render backward edges as `Root -->|"cites"| CitedPatent`.
6. Render forward edges as `CitingPatent -->|"cites"| Root`.
7. Use stable Mermaid-safe node IDs, not raw patent numbers as IDs.
8. Node labels should include patent number and, when available, a short title.
9. Apply class styling for root and review states.
10. If a side is empty, include one muted placeholder node such as `No backward citations found`.

Keep the output compact enough for a README or report. Do not include unrelated lookup pipeline details unless the user asks for process documentation.

# Goal Prompt: Depth 2 Patent Citation Mermaid

Create a Mermaid diagram for a depth-2 patent citation lookup.

Use the current PatentMine citation graph semantics:
- Depth 0 is the searched/root patent.
- Depth 1 contains direct backward and forward citation neighbors.
- Depth 2 contains citation neighbors reached from depth-1 patents.
- Backward expansion follows `source cites target`.
- Forward expansion follows later patents that cite the current node.

Requirements:
1. Produce a Mermaid `flowchart LR`.
2. Group nodes into these subgraphs: `Depth 1 backward`, `Depth 2 backward`, `Depth 1 forward`, and `Depth 2 forward`.
3. Render citation direction truthfully:
- `Root -->|"cites"| D1Backward`
- `D1Backward -->|"cites"| D2Backward`
- `D1Forward -->|"cites"| Root`
- `D2Forward -->|"cites"| D1Forward`
4. Deduplicate patents that appear through multiple paths. Show a single node and allow multiple incoming edges.
5. Cap displayed children per expanded node. Prefer 10 to 25 unless the user specifies another limit.
6. Add collapsed summary nodes such as `+42 more` when results are truncated.
7. Node labels should include patent number and optional short title or assignee.
8. Style nodes by depth and review state when possible.
9. Mark partial data or page-cap hits with a distinct class or note.
10. Keep the final Mermaid readable in plain Markdown.

If the raw graph is too dense, prioritize patents that are stored, under review, share CPC classes with the root, have assignee/inventor overlap, or have high citation connectivity.

# Goal Prompt: Depth 3 Patent Citation Mermaid

Create a Mermaid representation for a depth-3 patent citation lookup.

Depth 3 citation graphs can explode quickly, so do not render every raw node unless the graph is already small. Produce a summarized inspection map that preserves the traversal meaning while staying readable.

Use these semantics:
- Depth 0 is the searched/root patent.
- Depth 1 contains direct citation neighbors.
- Depth 2 contains neighbors reached from depth 1.
- Depth 3 contains neighbors reached from depth 2.
- Preserve true citation direction on every displayed edge.

Requirements:
1. Produce a Mermaid `flowchart LR`.
2. Include the root node and separate depth bands or subgraphs for depth 1, depth 2, and depth 3.
3. Show representative patents at each depth and collapsed count nodes for omitted patents.
4. Use labels such as `+248 more` or `Cluster: H04N image encoding, +392 patents` for large groups.
5. Deduplicate patents across paths and show repeated-path importance in labels when useful, for example `3 paths`.
6. Style depth 1, depth 2, and depth 3 distinctly.
7. Style review states when available: stored, under_review, ignored, cached.
8. Mark partial data, unknown counts, timeout, or forward page cap hits clearly.
9. Include a short legend in Mermaid nodes or classes if styling is not obvious.
10. Keep the diagram usable in a report; avoid producing an unreadable hairball.

Ranking guidance for representative nodes:
- Prefer stored and under_review patents.
- Prefer patents sharing CPC classes, assignees, inventors, or keywords with the root.
- Prefer patents with high connectivity or multiple paths.
- Prefer unexpired or strategically relevant patents if expiration data is present.

If the user needs the full depth-3 graph, recommend an interactive renderer or Graphviz/D3 export in addition to the Mermaid summary.
