Welcome to the user guide for our µLoggers (Modular Internet Controllable Real-time Optical-density Loggers).
If you are setting up a µLogger for the first time, please head over to the Getting started page to assemble and power up your µLogger.
Tip
- Power up your WiFi hotspot and µLoggers (more details here)
- Log in to the µLogger App (more details here)
- Create a new experiment (more details here)
- Give your experiment a name and link your µLoggers to the experiment (more details here)
- Use the device control Quick Actions (more details here) to adjust the stirrer settings, (optionally) set up an illumination schedule, and zero the µLoggers with uninoculated culture vials that just have your growth medium and a magnetic stir bar
- Start your experiment recording (more details here) and inoculate your cultures (for best results, mark the culture vials to keep them always in the same orientation after zeroing)
- Visualize the incoming data to follow the growth curves (more details here)
With your µLoggers set up, it is time to set up an experiment. Log into the µLogger App (for labs working with KopfLab/GEOM, go to https://apps.kopflab.org/micrologger and log in with the credentials we provided you with). Via this GUI, you can:
- organize your lab work into experiments that capture live data from the µLoggers
- control the µLoggers directly — edit their settings, start/stop stirring, zero the optical density detector, etc.
- visualize the recorded time-series data and export it
After signing into the app you land on the main screen (see screenshot below).
Tip
Jump over to the experiments tutorial to create a new experiment (or work with an existing one), send commands to your µLoggers, start recording, and visualize the collected data.
Note
You typically do NOT need to interact with the buttons in the top navigation bar but here is what they do just in case. The Help button simply links back to this tutorial, the other buttons provide the following functionality:
- Group: if you belong to more than one lab group, pick which group's µLoggers and experiments to work with
- Timezone: the timezone used for all date/time displays and plots (if the app did not detect your time zone correctly)
- Theme: the visual theme of the app (if you don't like our default)
- Light/Dark: toggle light or dark mode (everyone has their own preference, you know it)
