MMMikeM/README.md

Hi there, I'm Mike 👋

Staff engineer in payments by day: TypeScript and Python on Lambdas; Postgres, Mongo and MySQL underneath; a codebase old enough to be wagging fingers. Everything below is what happens after hours.

  • Headquartered in Cyprus 🇨🇾
  • Currently building (last audited: July 2026)
    • an offline-first new tab extension for task tracking
    • Kalimera, a Greek learning app
    • a wireless split keyboard - hybrid tenting
    • a CNC
    • guitars with my CNC
  • 🏠 Self-hosting: Proxmox, Home Assistant, and webapps with a lot of help from Tailscale

Standing opinions

  • I have an unhealthy relationship with optimisation. My mantra is YAGNI
  • Building with AI since the Copilot preview in 2021. The faster the code arrives, the harder the review needs to be.
  • Framework wars are a distraction. But also, I really like SolidJS.
  • Simplicity, as far as possible 👍
  • Keyboards still don't make sense. Findings so far:
  • Colemak-DH over Workman over Dvorak ⌨️
  • Columnar stagger and 40% keyboards are cool until you try to play games on one.
  • True endgame is split, low profile, no row stagger. Endgame is a lie.
  • Definitely a dog person 🐕
  • I'm not a fussy eater, I'm a supertaster 😎

Previously on this page

  • I'm currently learning about service workers accidentally published web-push, an RFC 8291 push library, instead
  • I really want to work with PandaCSS done, it's on the CV
  • I next want to work with Module Federation the industry and I quietly dropped this one together
  • Remix-JHB meetup and Javascript Breakpoint emigration is one hell of an offboarding
