Superseded recovery checkpoint — do not merge.

This draft preserved and audited the pre-v0.4 lifecycle WIP, but the first commit mixes catalog/Dolt lifecycle work with SPSS raw-dictionary semantics and regresses parts of the v0.4 CLI/docs. Commit history cannot split it safely. The release-ready replacement must be rebuilt from origin/main with file/hunk-level selection.

Preserved work

  • explicit catalog initialization/migration and fail-closed catalog gates
  • Dolt declaration selection and read-only working-set evidence
  • dynamic adapter identity from package metadata
  • SPSS reference-rewrite correction (0f1819f), with document round-trip targeted coverage passing 23/23

Verified CI boundaries

After wiring the local Specification 0.2 package:

  • package build/install: pass
  • Dolt 2.2.2 integration: pass
  • Dolt 2.2.3 integration: pass
  • broad non-service and PostgreSQL/MySQL/MariaDB jobs: fail; therefore this PR is not release-ready

Replacement plan

  1. Build a minimal explicit catalog + Dolt lifecycle branch from current main, preserving every v0.4 API/CLI/docs path.
  2. Build SPSS raw-dictionary/semantic round-trip as a separate branch.
  3. Rebase semantic work and conditional transformations only after the lifecycle base is green.
  4. Publish and pin the final openstatspec-specification==0.2.0 artifact before any Python release.

This PR remains open only as a reviewable recovery reference.

Closing this superseded recovery checkpoint. Its reviewable lifecycle work has been rebuilt in PR #12, which preserves the current v0.4 surfaces, uses the specification validator package 0.2.1 candidate, and passes the full 14-job matrix. This PR remains available as historical reference and must not be merged.
