Sound Library

The bundled library includes sounds inspired by more than 50 games, including Final Fantasy, The Legend of Zelda, Pokemon, Skyrim, Warcraft III, Mario, Minecraft, Morrowind, Path of Exile, RuneScape, Sonic the Hedgehog, and The Witcher 3. Some collections provide multiple alternate cues in addition to the standard volume variants.

BLU organizes sounds by game and variant in nested selection menus. Preview buttons let you test a selection before closing the options panel.

Compatibility and Requirements

BLU supports World of Warcraft Retail. The current interface value is maintained in BLU.toc, which is the source of truth as Retail clients update.

  • RGX-Framework is required.
  • BLU Classic is a separate addon for supported Classic clients.

Installation

  1. Install BLU from CurseForge, Wago, or GitHub Releases.
  2. Install the required RGX-Framework dependency if your addon manager does not resolve it automatically.
  3. Launch Retail WoW and type /blu.
  4. Choose a sound for each event and preview it directly from the options panel.

Manual installs belong in:

World of Warcraft/_retail_/Interface/AddOns/BLU

For a manual installation, confirm the dependency is installed beside BLU:

World of Warcraft/_retail_/Interface/AddOns/RGX-Framework

Restart WoW or run /reload, then verify both addons are enabled at character select.

Configuration

Open /blu and use the tabbed options panel to configure event modules, profiles, sounds, and diagnostics.

  1. Enable only the event modules you want BLU to handle.
  2. Select and preview a sound for each event.
  3. Choose the Low, Medium, or High variant where available.
  4. Decide whether BLU should mute the matching default WoW cue.
  5. Create or select a profile when you need a different setup.

Settings are stored in BLUDB. Profiles allow separate configurations without requiring duplicate addon folders.

Sound System

BLU supports three sound sources:

  1. Bundled sounds: Full Low, Medium, and High variants included with BLU.
  2. External sound packs: Addons discovered automatically or registered through BLU's public sound-pack APIs.
  3. User custom sounds: Compatible .ogg, .mp3, and .wav files added from the Sounds tab or slash commands.

Custom Sounds

Open /blu, select the Sounds tab, and use User Custom Sounds to add a short filename such as myfile.ogg. BLU checks common AddOns locations and registers the first compatible match.

/blu addcustom myfile
/blu addcustom myfile.ogg
/blu addcustom Interface\AddOns\myfile.ogg | My Custom Sound

Sound-pack authors can use BLU:RegisterExternalSoundPack() for simple files or BLU:RegisterSoundPack() for complete Low/Medium/High packs. See the Sounds Guidelines for current layouts and examples.

When only a filename is supplied, BLU checks common AddOns locations and its own sound directories. The first compatible match is registered under User Custom Sounds. Use /blu refresh after adding or removing files and /blu rescan after another addon registers media.

Sound-Pack Authors

BLU:RegisterExternalSoundPack() bridges simple single-file packs. BLU:RegisterSoundPack() registers complete BLU-compatible packs with volume variants. The Sounds Guidelines document the supported layouts and current API examples.

Troubleshooting

  • Confirm WoW's Master volume is enabled.
  • Use /blu rescan after another addon registers new media.
  • Use /blu refresh after adding or removing external/custom packs.
  • Some audio may pause briefly the first time WoW caches it.
  • Confirm BLU and RGX-Framework are both enabled if /blu does not open.
  • Use /blu debug and include the resulting context in reproducible reports.
