BLU supports World of Warcraft Retail. The current interface value is
maintained in BLU.toc, which is the source of truth as Retail
clients update.
- RGX-Framework is required.
- BLU Classic is a separate addon for supported Classic clients.
- Install BLU from CurseForge, Wago, or GitHub Releases.
- Install the required RGX-Framework dependency if your addon manager does not resolve it automatically.
- Launch Retail WoW and type
/blu. - Choose a sound for each event and preview it directly from the options panel.
Manual installs belong in:
World of Warcraft/_retail_/Interface/AddOns/BLU
For a manual installation, confirm the dependency is installed beside BLU:
World of Warcraft/_retail_/Interface/AddOns/RGX-Framework
Restart WoW or run /reload, then verify both addons are enabled at character
select.
Open /blu and use the tabbed options panel to configure event modules,
profiles, sounds, and diagnostics.
- Enable only the event modules you want BLU to handle.
- Select and preview a sound for each event.
- Choose the Low, Medium, or High variant where available.
- Decide whether BLU should mute the matching default WoW cue.
- Create or select a profile when you need a different setup.
Settings are stored in BLUDB. Profiles allow separate configurations without
requiring duplicate addon folders.

BLU supports three sound sources:
- Bundled sounds: Full Low, Medium, and High variants included with BLU.
- External sound packs: Addons discovered automatically or registered through BLU's public sound-pack APIs.
- User custom sounds: Compatible
.ogg,.mp3, and.wavfiles added from the Sounds tab or slash commands.
Open /blu, select the Sounds tab, and use User Custom Sounds to add a short filename such as myfile.ogg. BLU checks common AddOns locations and registers the first compatible match.
/blu addcustom myfile
/blu addcustom myfile.ogg
/blu addcustom Interface\AddOns\myfile.ogg | My Custom Sound
Sound-pack authors can use BLU:RegisterExternalSoundPack() for simple files or BLU:RegisterSoundPack() for complete Low/Medium/High packs. See the Sounds Guidelines for current layouts and examples.
When only a filename is supplied, BLU checks common AddOns locations and its
own sound directories. The first compatible match is registered under User
Custom Sounds. Use /blu refresh after adding or removing files and
/blu rescan after another addon registers media.
BLU:RegisterExternalSoundPack() bridges simple single-file packs.
BLU:RegisterSoundPack() registers complete BLU-compatible packs with volume
variants. The Sounds Guidelines
document the supported layouts and current API examples.
