Why

Canopy only creates applications from what a box reports. A machine with no applications can never be ranked, so its issues never reach an incident. Tupaia servers are about to run alertd (see beyondessential/tupaia and beyondessential/ops PRs on the same branch name), so alertd now reports a tupaia application for them.

What changed

  • Spec (SUBJ): an agent reports tupaia when /home/ubuntu/tupaia/package.json exists and its name is tupaia. The application has no checks of its own; machine checks run as normal, and no Tamanu or Postgres checks run for it.
  • Version: the checked-out commit hash, read from .git without spawning git. It is omitted when it can't be determined.
  • Code: a new tupaia.rs module, an ApplicationKind::Tupaia variant, a TupaiaInfo payload (tupaiaVersion), and the sweep wiring that goes with them. Unit and sweep tests are included.

Checks

cargo test -p bestool-alertd passes (554 tests). Clippy reports no new warnings, and the code is formatted.

Hosts with a Tupaia checkout at /home/ubuntu/tupaia now report a `tupaia`
application so Canopy creates one, letting the machine be ranked and its
issues reach incidents. Tupaia carries no application checks; its version
is the checked-out commit read from the git directory.
