commit 47388e8 upstream. Assuming the following: - side A configures the n_gsm in basic option mode - side B sends the header of a basic option mode frame with data length 1 - side A switches to advanced option mode - side B sends 2 data bytes which exceeds gsm->len Reason: gsm->len is not used in advanced option mode. - side A switches to basic option mode - side B keeps sending until gsm0_receive() writes past gsm->buf Reason: Neither gsm->state nor gsm->len have been reset after reconfiguration. Fix this by changing gsm->count to gsm->len comparison from equal to less than. Also add upper limit checks against the constant MAX_MRU in gsm0_receive() and gsm1_receive() to harden against memory corruption of gsm->len and gsm->mru. All other checks remain as we still need to limit the data according to the user configuration and actual payload size. __kernel_map_pages() is a debug function which clears the valid bit in page table entry for deallocated pages to detect illegal memory accesses to freed pages. This function set/clear the valid bit using __set_memory(). __set_memory() acquires init_mm's semaphore, and this operation may sleep. This is problematic, because __kernel_map_pages() can be called in atomic context, and thus is illegal to sleep. An example warning that this causes: BUG: sleeping function called from invalid context at kernel/locking/rwsem.c:1578 in_atomic(): 1, irqs_disabled(): 0, non_block: 0, pid: 2, name: kthreadd preempt_count: 2, expected: 0 CPU: 0 PID: 2 Comm: kthreadd Not tainted 6.9.0-g1d4c6d784ef6 #37 Hardware name: riscv-virtio,qemu (DT) Call Trace: [<ffffffff800060dc>] dump_backtrace+0x1c/0x24 [<ffffffff8091ef6e>] show_stack+0x2c/0x38 [<ffffffff8092baf8>] dump_stack_lvl+0x5a/0x72 [<ffffffff8092bb24>] dump_stack+0x14/0x1c [<ffffffff8003b7ac>] __might_resched+0x104/0x10e [<ffffffff8003b7f4>] __might_sleep+0x3e/0x62 [<ffffffff8093276a>] down_write+0x20/0x72 [<ffffffff8000cf00>] __set_memory+0x82/0x2fa [<ffffffff8000d324>] __kernel_map_pages+0x5a/0xd4 [<ffffffff80196cca>] __alloc_pages_bulk+0x3b2/0x43a [<ffffffff8018ee82>] __vmalloc_node_range+0x196/0x6ba [<ffffffff80011904>] copy_process+0x72c/0x17ec [<ffffffff80012ab4>] kernel_clone+0x60/0x2fe [<ffffffff80012f62>] kernel_thread+0x82/0xa0 [<ffffffff8003552c>] kthreadd+0x14a/0x1be [<ffffffff809357de>] ret_from_fork+0xe/0x1c Rewrite this function with apply_to_existing_page_range(). Patch series "mm: remove nth_page()", v2. As discussed recently with Linus, nth_page() is just nasty and we would like to remove it. To recap, the reason we currently need nth_page() within a folio is because on some kernel configs (SPARSEMEM without SPARSEMEM_VMEMMAP), the memmap is allocated per memory section. While buddy allocations cannot cross memory section boundaries, hugetlb and dax folios can. So crossing a memory section means that "page++" could do the wrong thing. Instead, nth_page() on these problematic configs always goes from page->pfn, to the go from (++pfn)->page, which is rather nasty. Likely, many people have no idea when nth_page() is required and when it might be dropped. We refer to such problematic PFN ranges and "non-contiguous pages". If we only deal with "contiguous pages", there is not need for nth_page(). Besides that "obvious" folio case, we might end up using nth_page() within CMA allocations (again, could span memory sections), and in one corner case (kfence) when processing memblock allocations (again, could span memory sections). So let's handle all that, add sanity checks, and remove nth_page(). Patch #1 -> #5 : stop making SPARSEMEM_VMEMMAP user-selectable + cleanups Patch #6 -> #13 : disallow folios to have non-contiguous pages Patch #14 -> #20 : remove nth_page() usage within folios Patch #22 : disallow CMA allocations of non-contiguous pages Patch #23 -> #33 : sanity+check + remove nth_page() usage within SG entry Patch #34 : sanity-check + remove nth_page() usage in unpin_user_page_range_dirty_lock() Patch #35 : remove nth_page() in kfence Patch #36 : adjust stale comment regarding nth_page Patch #37 : mm: remove nth_page() A lot of this is inspired from the discussion at [1] between Linus, Jason and me, so cudos to them. This patch (of 37): In an ideal world, we wouldn't have to deal with SPARSEMEM without SPARSEMEM_VMEMMAP, but in particular for 32bit SPARSEMEM_VMEMMAP is considered too costly and consequently not supported. However, if an architecture does support SPARSEMEM with SPARSEMEM_VMEMMAP, let's forbid the user to disable VMEMMAP: just like we already do for arm64, s390 and x86. So if SPARSEMEM_VMEMMAP is supported, don't allow to use SPARSEMEM without SPARSEMEM_VMEMMAP. This implies that the option to not use SPARSEMEM_VMEMMAP will now be gone for loongarch, powerpc, riscv and sparc. All architectures only enable SPARSEMEM_VMEMMAP with 64bit support, so there should not really be a big downside to using the VMEMMAP (quite the contrary). This is a preparation for not supporting (1) folio sizes that exceed a single memory section (2) CMA allocations of non-contiguous page ranges in SPARSEMEM without SPARSEMEM_VMEMMAP configs, whereby we want to limit possible impact as much as possible (e.g., gigantic hugetlb page allocations suddenly fails). …work The test_bpftool_metadata.sh script validates that bpftool properly returns in its ouptput any metadata generated by bpf programs through some .rodata sections. Port this test to the test_progs framework so that it can be executed automatically in CI. The new test, similarly to the former script, checks that valid data appears both for textual output and json output, as well as for both data not used at all and used data. For the json check part, the expected json string is hardcoded to avoid bringing a new external dependency (eg: a json deserializer) for test_progs. As the test is now converted into test_progs, remove the former script. The newly converted test brings two new subtests: #37/1 bpftool_metadata/metadata_unused:OK #37/2 bpftool_metadata/metadata_used:OK #37 bpftool_metadata:OK Summary: 1/2 PASSED, 0 SKIPPED, 0 FAILED Signed-off-by: Alexis Lothoré (eBPF Foundation) <alexis.lothore@bootlin.com> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20260123-bpftool-tests-v4-2-a6653a7f28e7@bootlin.com Signed-off-by: Alexei Starovoitov <ast@kernel.org>

WARNING: lib/refcount.c:28 at refcount_warn_saturate+0x138/0x1a0, CPU#3: kworker/u17:4/93400 The issue is caused by a race condition between retransmit_timer() and rxe_destroy_qp, leading to the Queue Pair's (QP) reference count dropping to zero during timer handler execution. It seems this warning is harmless because rxe_qp_do_cleanup() will flush all pending timers and requests. Example of flow causing the issue: CPU0 CPU1 retransmit_timer() { spin_lock_irqsave rxe_destroy_qp() __rxe_cleanup() __rxe_put() // qp->ref_count decrease to 0 rxe_qp_do_cleanup() { if (qp->valid) { rxe_sched_task() { WARN_ON(rxe_read(task->qp) <= 0); } } spin_unlock_irqrestore } spin_lock_irqsave qp->valid = 0 spin_unlock_irqrestore } Ensure the QP's reference count is maintained and its validity is checked within the timer callbacks by adding calls to rxe_get(qp) and corresponding rxe_put(qp) after use. The napi_consume_skb() function is not intended to be called in an IRQ disabled context. However, after commit 6bc8a50 ("net: macb: Fix tx_ptr_lock locking"), the freeing of TX SKBs is performed with IRQs disabled. Problem
Seb: I think we have a problem with the kernel repos this morning (all except the gcp repo, which wasn't touched). It looks like upstream was merged into develop instead of having had our patch sets rebased on top of upstream (starting with the @@DELPHIX_PATCHSET_START@@ commit).
Solution
Here is what I did:
Ubuntu-hwe-5.15-5.15.0-116.126_20.04.1from upstreams.origin/developto get the changes @jwk404 made in PR 36 and added that as a new commit.Testing Done
