This is the feedback and roadmap tracker for Shizuka, a Japanese learning app for beginners.
Live app: https://shizuka.co.uk
The app's code is private. This repository is only for reporting bugs, requesting features, and following what is planned. Anyone with a GitHub account can open an issue here.
A way to learn Japanese by using it, not just memorising it. It is built for absolute beginners and today covers the JLPT N5 level:
- Hiragana and katakana practice, one row at a time
- Sensei-led courses: greetings, and Minna no Nihongo lessons 1 to 3
- Picture-book courses that end in reading the real book
- All 67 Koupen-chan episodes as guided video lessons
- Real recorded voices throughout
The goal is to grow from N5 all the way to N1, one level at a time:
- N5, beginner: available now
- N4, upper beginner: planned
- N3, intermediate: planned
- N2, upper intermediate: planned
- N1, advanced: planned
Open an issue and pick a type: a bug report if something is broken, or a feature request if you have an idea.
Example bug report:
Title: Sound plays the wrong voice on my phone Page: Hiragana practice Device: iPhone, Safari What happened: tapping "a" reads it in an English voice Expected: a Japanese voice
Example feature request:
Title: Add a daily review of past lessons Idea: a short review of the kana I have already learned Why it helps: I forget older characters while learning new ones
The more detail you give (what you did, your device, what you expected), the faster it can be fixed.
Browse the open issues to see what is planned and in progress. The current focus is:
- A clearer first run, so new learners know where to start
- A guided path from hiragana to grammar, with progress saved
- Mobile fixes for audio and touch
