aarch64-linux and macOS are not affected

Reverting to 0.17.0 seems to fix the issue

This isn't a platform specific issue
it is just an error that could be handled better

Sure that might be, still that's a regression from 0.17.0 (and it's still somewhat platform dependent as we've seen failures mostly on x64 linux, rarely on other platforms)
