#933 attempted to bump the Rust edition to 2024, but at the time it was relatively recent and ecosystem support was limited. However, edition 2024 has now been available for over 2 years, and is supported virtually everywhere. As mentioned in #933 (comment), current Debian Stable uses Rust 1.85.1, which supports edition 2024; the Debian stable version is used as the MSRV by a number of other projects, including Rust for Linux.
As such, I'm wondering whether wg-embedded has any interest in moving this project, and possibly others, to edition 2024? I ran into this when looking through rust-embedded/riscv#299, so that's certainly one other candidate for upgrading. This bump would also enable the use of anything in core that was stabilized between $CURRENT_MSRV and 1.85.
(note: opening this with my personal account, not my work account @maya-qorsa. Sorry for the confusion!)
