So, based upon discussion in the libs team meeting, we're probably going to adopt a slightly different policy, and given that this PR is two years old, we'll just open a new one and FCP that. Will make sure it's linked in the PR to tie the two together. |

Not only is this already done in the standard library (
memcpyis aliased to three different functions andmemmovetwo), I think it is helpful to show the user all the different places in which a single OS call’s functionality is exposed bystd.Related: rust-lang/rust#113891
