You do not need technical skills to use glance. The interface is designed for everyday users who want access to their network files with ease from a web browser.

🚀 Getting Started with glance on Windows

Follow these steps to download, install, and run glance on a Windows computer.


1. Download glance

Start by getting the software from the official page below. This page has the latest version available.

  • Click the green button to open the GitHub page.
  • Look for the latest release or release assets.
  • Download the Windows installer file (usually ends with .exe).

2. Install glance

Once the download completes, follow these steps:

  • Open the folder where the file was saved (usually your Downloads folder).
  • Double-click the .exe file to start the installer.
  • A setup window will open. Click Next on each screen.
  • Agree to the license terms.
  • Choose an install location or use the default.
  • Click Install to complete the installation.

3. Run glance

After installing glance:

  • Find the glance icon on your desktop or Start menu.
  • Double-click the icon to open the app.
  • It will launch a local web server and open the web interface in your default browser.

4. Connect to your Samba server

When the interface opens in your browser:

  • Enter the IP address or hostname of your Samba server.
  • Provide the username and password for your Samba account.
  • Click Connect.

If your Samba server is set up properly, the file manager will show the shared folders.


5. Using glance

Once connected, you can perform the following tasks:

  • Browse files: Navigate shared folders and open files.
  • Upload files: Use the upload button to add new files to your server.
  • Download files: Click on files to download them to your computer.
  • Delete or move files: Select files to delete or organize.
  • Stream media: Click on supported video or audio files to play them directly.
  • Manage SSH keys: Add or remove SSH keys for secure connections using the SSH key management tab.

🛠️ Troubleshooting

If you face issues when running glance on Windows, try these steps:

  • Check that your Windows firewall allows glance to communicate on your network.
  • Make sure your Samba server is running and accessible from your Windows device.
  • Confirm you entered the correct Samba username and password.
  • Restart glance and your computer if needed.
  • Use a different web browser if the interface does not load.
