Prompt Saver 2.6.3
Prompt Saver 2.6.3
The backups window is finished: automatic backups can be switched off and keep
running while the app is open, retention gained a yearly tier, and the page was
rebuilt in two columns. The statistics were trimmed to the numbers that actually
say something, and fourteen tooltips finally describe the setting they sit on.

Installer — choose all users or current user only; upgrades replace the previous version automatically, your data is kept |
prompt-saver.exe |
Portable standalone version — one file, no installation, keeps its data next to itself |
Requires the Microsoft WebView2 runtime (preinstalled on Windows 11 and current Windows 10). If it is missing, the app offers the official Microsoft installer on first start.
Highlights
- Automatic backups have an off switch — and they keep running while the app is open instead of only at launch, so a changed interval takes effect straight away.
- Yearly retention — smart retention keeps a number of backups per day, week, month and year.
- Backups window in two columns — taking a backup, the schedule and the password on the left, retention on the right. The button in the settings is now called Backup manager and sits with the other backup buttons.
- Remove password is its own button with a confirmation, so Save can never drop the backup password by accident. A stored password shows as dots.
- Leaner numbers — backup diagnostics down to the eight figures that matter, usage statistics down to twelve in three rows, with the overview and the per-view breakdown side by side.
Fixed
- Fourteen tooltips described the wrong thing and were rewritten in all 20 languages.
- "Never used" now means never used, instead of "not used this month".
- Switching smart retention on no longer overwrites the plain keep count.
- The clear button in the backup number fields sat beside the field instead of inside it, and stayed gone once used.
- A backup password you are still typing survives changing another setting on the same page.
The complete list is in the changelog.
Prompt Saver 2.6.2
Prompt Saver 2.6.2
Backups get their own window, their own encryption and a lot less disk space. The
expert menu was re-sorted from scratch, the portable version is now a single file,
and a long list of rough edges is gone.
Coming from 2.4.1? This build also brings everything from 2.5.0: a custom title bar,
version history per prompt, batch editing and favorites in the library, a duplicate
finder, fuzzy search, smart sorting, auto-paste and the clipboard inbox.

Portable standalone version — one file, no installation, keeps its data next to itself |
Requires the Microsoft WebView2 runtime (preinstalled on Windows 11 and current Windows 10). If it is missing, the app offers the official Microsoft installer on first start.
Highlights
- Backups window — the Backups button in the settings opens a page of its own: interval and retention, diagnostics, the restore list and the usage statistics.
- Encrypted, compressed backups — exports are AES-256-GCM encrypted and take a fraction of the space they used to. An optional password protects new backups; older backups keep whatever protected them and still restore.
- Single-file portable version — the PDF preview library is built into the exe, so nothing has to travel next to it. Starting it beside an existing installation offers to take those prompts along.
- Installer runs through in one pass — choosing "for all users" no longer makes it restart itself halfway through.
- Expert menu re-sorted — clearer groups, and 77 settings whose name alone does not explain them now carry a tooltip, in all 20 languages.
- Split reset buttons — delete the data or reset the settings, not both at once, optionally with a safety backup first.
Fixed
- The version history in the editor is reachable on small windows and only as tall as its contents.
- No more flicker when changing a setting, taking a backup or collapsing a category.
- Resetting the settings no longer discards the backup password.
- Prompts with variables follow the same copy/paste rule as every other prompt.
- The window buttons no longer show tooltips; close no longer turns red on hover.

Installer — choose all users (admin) or current user only; upgrades replace the previous version automatically, your data is kept |
prompt-saver.exe |
Portable standalone version — one file, no installation |
Requires the Microsoft WebView2 runtime (preinstalled on Windows 11 and current Windows 10). If it is missing, the app offers the official Microsoft installer on first start.
Improved
- The update notification is now a clearer, more prominent card — an icon, the new version, and a one-click Install now button — while still matching your chosen theme.
Fixed
- The scrollbar in the update changelog now looks exactly like every other scrollbar in the app.
For the full 2.4.0 feature list (full-screen media viewer, redesigned tooltips, better screenshots, tidier expert menu), see the CHANGELOG.md.
Prompt Saver 2.4.0

prompt-saver.exe |
Portable standalone version — one file, no installation |
Requires the Microsoft WebView2 runtime (preinstalled on Windows 11 and current Windows 10). If it is missing, the app offers the official Microsoft installer on first start.
Added
- Full-screen media viewer: click any preview image or video in an edit or library dialog to open it full-screen — scroll to zoom in (up to 8×), drag to pan, close with the ✕ or the Escape key.
- Favorite star in the title bar: the edit and add dialogs now show a gold ★ in their title bar; one click marks a prompt as a favorite.
- Forget recent searches: each entry in the recent-searches dropdown has its own ✕ to remove it.
- Tooltip toggle: a new expert-menu option turns the small icon tooltips off for a quieter interface.
Improved
- Redesigned tooltips: every hover hint uses the same themed popup, and a tooltip left open hides itself automatically after a short while.
- Better screenshot names: captures are saved as
Screenshotplus an exact date and time; a single-window capture also adds that app's name. - Tidier expert menu: the settings that adjust a feature now sit directly under that feature's on/off switch and disappear when it is off — no more stray sliders for a disabled feature. The optional "extras" groups start collapsed.
- The recent-searches dropdown no longer opens on its own when you open the library or history — only when you click the search field again.
- Consistent look: the three-dot menu on every tile matches your theme regardless of the tile's color or content, scrollbars sit flush against the edge, the close ✕ is in the same spot in every popup, and the grid-size ✕ is crisp and centered. A clearer chain-link icon marks chained prompts.
- The app title can no longer be accidentally selected as text.
Fixed
- Saving a large screenshot as a button no longer freezes the app — captures are stored efficiently and appear instantly.

prompt-saver.exe |
Portable standalone version — one file, no installation |
Requires the Microsoft WebView2 runtime (preinstalled on Windows 11 and current Windows 10). If it is missing, the app offers the official Microsoft installer on first start.
Added
- Video player on floating buttons: hover the lower edge of a video pill for play/pause, scrubber, time, loop toggle and sound — same controls as on grid tiles
- Volume slider: hovering the sound button opens a vertical slider (grid tiles and floating buttons)
- Saved player state: volume, mute and the loop / play-once choice are remembered per prompt and restored on the next start
- Close button (X) in the floating button's right-click menu
- The WebView2 setup dialog on first start now speaks all 20 languages
Improved
- Images and videos fill the floating button exactly — every pixel visible, no cropping; S/M/L scales the whole button
- Dragging a video button or a video tile no longer stutters
- Tile text keeps its size when the window moves between monitors with different display scaling
- The floating button's right-click menu is more compact
- Screen reader labels follow the chosen language
Fixed
- The image on a floating button could appear wrong or not at all
- A frozen video on a floating button now recovers by itself
- Saving a prompt shows an error message if it fails instead of failing silently
