# Contributor License Agreement (CLA)

Thank you for contributing to nomploy. To keep the project's licensing options
open (including offering commercial licenses alongside the AGPL-3.0), we ask
every contributor to agree to the terms below before we can merge a contribution.

By submitting a contribution (a pull request, patch, or any code, documentation,
or other material) to this project, you agree that:

1. **You have the right to contribute it.** The contribution is your original
work, or you otherwise have the right to submit it under these terms, and it
does not knowingly violate any third party's rights.

2. **You grant a broad license to the project maintainers.** You grant the
nomploy maintainers a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free,
irrevocable license to use, reproduce, modify, prepare derivative works of,
publicly display, sublicense, and distribute your contribution and such
derivative works.

3. **You permit relicensing / dual-licensing.** You agree the maintainers may
license your contribution under the AGPL-3.0 **and** under other terms
(including commercial licenses). This is what lets nomploy be offered both as
free software and, where needed, under a commercial license.

4. **Your contribution is provided "as is",** without warranty of any kind, to
the extent permitted by law. You retain the copyright to your contribution.

This is a lightweight agreement intended to preserve the project's flexibility.
It is not legal advice; for significant or corporate contributions, consider
having your own legal counsel review it.

> Setup note: to enforce this automatically on pull requests, wire up a CLA bot
> (e.g. CLA Assistant, https://github.com/cla-assistant/cla-assistant) so
> contributors sign once. Until then, opening a PR is taken as agreement to the
> terms above.

nomploy — a Nomad-orchestrated fork of Dokploy.
Portions of nomploy are derived from Dokploy and remain licensed under the
Apache License, Version 2.0, reproduced below.

Copyright 2026-present Dokploy Technology, Inc. (original work)
Copyright 2026-present the nomploy contributors (modifications)
Original project: https://github.com/dokploy/dokploy

This entire repository is licensed under the Apache License, Version 2.0.

nomploy is a fork of Dokploy. The upstream project was dual-licensed: most of
the code under the Apache License 2.0, and a set of enterprise modules under a
separate "Dokploy Source Available License" (DSAL) in "/proprietary"
directories. nomploy does NOT include Dokploy's DSAL-licensed code: those
modules were removed and replaced with original, freely-licensed
implementations (see the NOTICE file). As a result, no part of this repository
is under the DSAL, and the whole project is available under the Apache License
2.0 below.
The nomploy project as a whole is licensed under the GNU AGPL-3.0 (see
LICENSE). This Apache-2.0 grant applies to the upstream Dokploy code that
nomploy incorporates and modifies. See LICENSING.md and NOTICE for details.

# Licensing

## Short version

- **nomploy as a whole is licensed under the GNU AGPL-3.0** — see [`LICENSE`](LICENSE).
- **Portions derived from [Dokploy](https://github.com/dokploy/dokploy) remain under Apache-2.0** — see [`LICENSE-APACHE`](LICENSE-APACHE) and [`NOTICE`](NOTICE).

## What this means

nomploy is a fork of Dokploy. Dokploy's code is Apache-2.0 (a permissive
license), and Apache-2.0 explicitly allows redistributing a modified work under
a compatible copyleft license. nomploy therefore licenses the **combined work**,
and all of its own modifications and additions, under the **AGPL-3.0**.

The Apache-2.0 grant on the upstream Dokploy code is **not** removed — it is
preserved (its notices are retained, per Apache-2.0 §4). Anyone can still obtain
that upstream code from Dokploy under Apache-2.0. What is offered under AGPL-3.0
is *this project as a whole*.

### Practical effects

- You may use, self-host, modify and redistribute nomploy under the AGPL-3.0.
- If you run a **modified** nomploy as a network service, the AGPL requires you
to offer that modified source to your users.
- You do **not** need to add a license header to every file. The repository-level
`LICENSE`, `LICENSE-APACHE` and `NOTICE` govern the whole tree.

## Commercial licensing

If you want to use nomploy in a way that the AGPL-3.0 does not permit (for
example, embedding it in a proprietary/closed product), a separate commercial
license may be available from the nomploy maintainers. Contributions are accepted
under the [Contributor License Agreement](CLA.md), which keeps this option open.
